Problems tend to happen at the worst possible times; especially if it’s your air conditioning not working at the beginning of summer. No one wants to have to be sweaty in his or her own home. If you think your A/C is on the fritz, here are the signs you should look for.
No cool air
Sometimes it might just be blowing room temperature air instead of cold air. That usually means that your compressor has failed or the Freon is low. These problems can be repaired, but will probably need to be replaced.
Poor air flow
We’re not sure which is worse, room temperature air blowing or no air at all. Both aren’t the most enjoyable. Either way, if your unit is blowing weakly or not at all, odds are something is wrong with the ductwork.
Moisture where it shouldn’t be
There shouldn’t be moisture or pooling water around or near the system. If there is it could be the refrigerant leaking or the drain tube could be blocked or broken. You should address and solve both problems as soon as possible to prevent serious health risks and mold growth.
The AC unit shutting on/off irregularly
Is your unit turning on too often or not enough? Your thermostat might be in a bad spot. If it is in direct sunlight, it could be on for much longer than needed. Try having it moved to a different part of the house.
Utility bills are higher than normal
Your utilities should be about the same from year to year during the same seasons. If you’re noticing that your bills are increasing, your unit isn’t running efficiently. It should be checked to get it working correctly and save you money.
You’re not as comfortable as last year
You’re supposed to be comfortable in your home if your air conditioning is working correctly. If you’re ever not comfortable, you should have your air filters checked.
